"Interesting how there still is a section labeled 'mythology'." Charon murmured as he stared with clear boredom at the shelves before him, "Such a word implies we do not exist and 'religion' implies uncertainty in existence, so maybe they should just call the section 'reality'." He ran an unpleasantly bony finger across the spines of the book, his blue eyes reading the titles imprinted on the binding several books ahead of the digit. "They don't have it..." He spoke with disappointment. He supposed that he should have come to this conclusion quite some time ago, though, considering that this was the tenth or eleventh time he's scanned the shelves. His memory being what it was, anything past the second go-through was a waste of time. He'd scanned through the titles several times after the second nonetheless, though, likely just to pass the time. Long pink lashes fell and met, remaining for several seconds before parting and rising again.
"What a waste of time." He exhaled slowly as he turned his back swiftly to the shelves labeled as 'mythology' and strode to the shelves...well, they were more cubbyholes than anything, each cubby containing one scroll, the title of which written above it in permanent marker. His eyes took in the various titles, now simply looking for something interesting to read. He picked one or two off the shelf with delicate movements before striding over to one of the tables that stood near the front of the library. Carefully, he unrolled the first one, taking in the images painted masterfully. Really, it was a miracle this place had any scrolls. If Jia had been built anywhere but China though, it probably wouldn't have any. It was a pity how few they had in Charon's opinion. Not that he honestly cared. He just felt it a pity because surely someone did.
These are boring. He leaned back in his chair and allowed his focus to float from one thought to another, from one object to the next. Right now, nothing seemed interesting, to be honest. Things had been slow in the church for the past several days, hence why he'd allowed himself to wander around the city when he should be tending to the church. Nothing interesting was happening, no fights, no crimes. It was too mundane for his taste. And fuck he couldn't even sleep the days away. Being the god he was, he was literally unable to sleep. His body ached and complained to him without pause. He couldn't even escape that. With nothing to do his body had grown horrendously restless. It really didn't take much for him to grow restless, though. Having spent so many thousands of years constantly rowing and often having to fetch people out of the Styx, he was used to constant physical exertion. What he wasn't used to, though, was lazing about all day for several days. To say the least, he was absolutely hating this.
He'd come here originally on an errand, but that errand was left to be unfulfilled due to the absence of the books he required. The only reason he was staying was because he'd walked all the way over here and really didn't have anything else to do. He didn't really like wasting his time or wasting trips, so he was hoping to find an interesting text, but the longer he sat in his chair near the front of the library the more negative he felt. There probably wasn't anything interesting in the library anyway. Why bother even getting up? He was probably going to go home bored as he was to begin with and just as restless, if not more.
